ClimbAmerica! is a special fundraising event produced by ClimbCorps in which participants climb Boston’s tallest buildings to help fight heart disease. Whether you’re a trained stair climber, interested in getting more active, or passionate about the cause, ClimbAmerica! offers something for everyone. You can challenge yourself and race against other climbers, or use it as a chance to exercise and spend time with friends and family. It’s also a great opportunity to raise awareness and climb in honor of loved ones who have been affected by heart disease. After climbing one the city’s tallest buildings, you’ll leave ClimbAmerica! feeling energized and proud that you helped make a difference in the fight against heart disease.
REGISTRATION
You can register for ClimbAmerica! online as an individual or team. Registration is free and only takes a few minutes. No team is too big, so we encourage you to get as many family and friends together as possible to support this cause. For a weekly schedule and tips on being a team leader, read our step-by-step guide to leading a winning team.
FUNDRAISING
Once you’re registered, you can set up a personal online page, which makes fundraising quick and easy. In just a few minutes, you can set a fundraising goal, share your story about why you’re participating, and start collecting donations to support the fight against heart disease. There is no minimum for fundraising, but if you raise $200, you will receive a commemorative ClimbAmerica! t-shirt on Climb Day! For fundraising tips, read our guide for raising $200 in one week.
TRAINING
Stair climbing is a great way to burn calories, improve fitness, and boost your energy level. To help you prepare for ClimbAmerica!, experts at Brigham and Women’s Hospital put together a six-week training plan to help you get ready for your climb. We strongly suggest that you utilize this training plan in preparation for ClimbAmerica! Before you know it, you’ll be ready for the big climb!
CLIMBING
Registration and check-in will take place from 8:00-9:00am in the building lobby. If you’ve registered online, simply check-in. For those who have raised $200 or more, collect your t-shirt. If you’re registering on climb day, hand in your completed pledge paper along with any donations that you’ve collected. All climbers will receive a number and an electronic chip to record their time. At 9:00am, the event will kick-off and participants will climb in groups, each starting a few seconds apart. You will climb to the top of the building at your own pace and can stop at various checkpoints along the way for water or a quick break. Once you reach the finish line, you can celebrate your accomplishment and return to the lobby (via elevator!). We’ll be hosting a celebratory reception following the climb, where you can pick up free snacks, beverages, and health information!
